Since the 1850s
A place with a story
Every building has a story, and this one has been collecting them for more than 170 years.
Built in the 1850s, The Salopian Inn began life as a country inn, welcoming travellers, locals and generations of people drawn to the beauty and bounty of McLaren Vale.
When we became custodians of this remarkable place, we felt a deep responsibility to honour its history while creating something that reflected the region we love today.
Every dish and every bottle have a story.
The current custodians
Karena & Alex
In 2013, Karena took the helm of the kitchen, bringing a passion for seasonal cooking and a commitment to showcasing the incredible produce grown by our local farmers, growers and artisans.
In 2014, Alex joined the team, helping shape our wine program and sharing the stories of the vineyards and winemakers that make McLaren Vale one of Australia's great wine regions.

Together, we've built a restaurant that celebrates connection; to the land, to the people who produce our food and wine, and to the guests who walk through our doors.
Every dish and every bottle have a story, and many of them begin just a few kilometres from where you're sitting.
Sustainability
Committed to Sustainability
Sustainability is built into the way The Salopian Inn operates every day. Solar power helps reduce our energy use, while green waste is composted and recycling is prioritised across the business.
In the kitchen, we embrace a no-waste philosophy, fermenting, pickling and preserving surplus produce to extend its life beyond the season. These techniques allow us to make the most of ingredients at their peak while bringing depth and character to our cooking.
We work closely with local farmers and producers, prioritising seasonal ingredients, reducing food miles and limiting unnecessary packaging and transportation. We choose to partner with sustainable and ethical growers, producers and hunters who share our respect for the land, animals and natural resources.
Community
Rooted in Community
The Salopian Inn has always been about more than what just happens around a table. It is important to us to support, where we can, the people who make McLaren Vale and South Australia such special communities.
Across each year The Salopian Inn sponsor and contribute to the fundraising efforts of local schools and sporting clubs. We also support McLaren Vale Christmas Pageant, Catherine House, The Village Co, Hutt St Centre and Starlight Foundation through both ambassador roles and charitable donations.
We are proud to be part of a community that continually inspires us, and grateful for the opportunity to support the people, organisations and initiatives that help it thrive.
Today, The Salopian Inn remains a place of gathering, conversation and hospitality.
