Salopian Artists

Fleurieu Arthouse

Founded in 2017 by artists Anna Small and Warren Pickering, the Fleurieu Arthouse occupies a beautifully repurposed space within the historic Hardy’s Tintara winery and brings together a gallery, design store and working artist studios. More than a place to buy art, it is a living, breathing creative hub where artists make, exhibit and connect with the community, and where visitors can experience the extraordinary depth of creative talent across the Fleurieu Peninsula.

For more than seven years, The Salopian Inn has been a satellite gallery for Fleurieu Arthouse, bringing the work of Fleurieu artists into our dining rooms and creating a constantly changing collection for our guests to discover. Anna has been an important part of this collaboration, working with us to select artists whose work speaks to the landscape, character and creative spirit of our region.

Anna and Warren’s own works are also woven into the Salopian story. Their sculptural artworks are scattered throughout our Kitchen Garden, nestled amongst the plants, flowers and produce that make their way from the garden to the kitchen.

If you are interested in purchasing one of the artworks on our walls, or wish to view more artworks from artists based on the Fleurieu Peninsula, contact Anna Small at the Fleurieu Arthouse, 202 Main Rd, McLaren Vale or via hello@fleurieuarthouse.com.au

Gail Kellett

McLaren Vale artist Gail Kellett is renowned for her distinctive hand-painted linocuts, inspired by the landscapes, people and character of the Fleurieu Peninsula. Working primarily in linocut for more than 30 years, Gail’s bold compositions and intricate carved textures create works that are both contemporary and deeply connected to the landscape around her. Gail draws inspiration from vineyards, farms, native flora, coastlines and the everyday details that give the region its sense of place.

For Gail’s SALA 2026 exhibition, Inn Print, she has created a series of legacy works celebrating the Inn’s 175-year-old building and the life within it, with details from the historic architecture and Kitchen Garden to cocktails at the bar and glimpses into the kitchen. Rather than simply documenting the building, Gail has captured Salopian as it is lived today: a place of food, gardens, creativity and hospitality.

For the current custodians, these works are a way of preserving a chapter in Salopian’s long story. They capture the details and atmosphere of the Inn at this moment in time, creating an enduring record for future generations.

A limited number of Gail’s Salopian linocuts are available for guests to purchase, offering the opportunity to take home a little piece of Salopian and McLaren Vale. To enquire about available works and editions, please contact Gail directly via 0422 062 542 or gakellett@adam.com.au You’ll also find more of Gail’s artworks at Fleurieu Arthouse.

The Salopian Community Artist Program

In July 2024, we began our Community Artist Program as an extension of our commitment to using local produce and beverages. The walls of The Salopian Inn have now become a space to celebrate artists who are part of our community, including emerging artists from within Team Salopian, local creatives and artists whose work has a personal connection to our families.

With work from our own team members, including Ahlia Sanders and Harper Rochford, and community artists Mike Sander, Alexia Prokopec and Athenie Leckey, each exhibition has offered a different perspective and story.

For us, the program is about more than filling wall space. Art and food share a language of creativity, craftsmanship and place. By showcasing artists connected to our team and our region, we hope to support emerging talent and give our guests another way to experience the creativity of McLaren Vale.

Lindsey Merryn

Our upcoming exhibition by Lindsey Merryn continues this story, with macro photographs celebrating the produce grown in our Kitchen Garden and revealing the extraordinary beauty in the ingredients that make their way from garden to plate. You’ll find Lindsey’s work on our walls from 1st November 2026.
